Promoting circular approaches for energy independency in business and communities.
The project EnergyCircle helps public authorities and business support organisations develop long-term plans and transition towards circular energy independence, ensuring energy security in the region.
2022 geopolitical tensions demonstrated how BSR strategic sectors are severely exposed to international disturbances in the energy market. BS saw record-high energy prices, which boosted inflation, supply bottlenecks, all which produced severe effects on business and communities. In 2023, the EU Parliament proposed a plan to make Europe energy independent with focus to a long-term vision on energy security (“From sprint to marathon”). This marathon focus is still lacking in BS, where short-term energy interventions are implemented with no long-term circular planning. The lineal approach, implementing isolated interventions not guided by a circular long-term plan of actuations, leads to inefficiencies, additional cost of investment, or even impossibility to carry other future energy investments. BSR energy actors are not offering this circular long-term vision, sometimes due to lack of knowledge or planning tools, which produces a delay in the implementation of the circular energy independency.
The main OBJECTIVE of EnergyCircle is to offer the target groups, a set of solutions to support the transition to circular energy independence, based on long-term plans. The proposed solutions are: – Methodology for Builder Competence Analysis: to assess their capacity to be “builders” of the transition to energy independency. – Methodology for EnergyCircle Roadmap: to facilitate the target groups process of designing long-term plans for energy independence.
